Nagpur - " The Orange City "

                       Commonly associated with its delectable juicy varieties of oranges, Nagpur is also the winter capital of Maharashtra. With temples, lush green gardens, lakes, and connectivity with main cities along with the rich cultural heritage enchant its visitors.

                Located at the geographical center of India, Nagpur has plateaus, flat tablelands with rivers and streams flowing through them.

                 Nagpur, also known as the 'Orange city' of India because of the juiciest varieties of oranges found here. Deekshabhumi - the largest hollow Buddhist stupa in the world,  Ambazari Lake, Futala Lake, Ramtek fort temple, Bohra Masjid, and orange orchards are a must-visit in Nagpur.

Best Time To Visit :

              The Winter season is the best season for a visit to Nagpur. The months when Nagpur is ideal for a trip the October - March. Monsoons are also nice for a visit to the same, although the heavy rainfall might ruin your plans. The summers, though, are the least advisable time for a visit, owing to the scorching heat. Summers are dry and hot with temperatures soaring up to 49 degrees Celsius.

Places To Visit :

1 . Dhamma Chakra Stupa :

                            Also known as Deeksha Bhumi, the stupa is a marvelous architectural body and can accommodate more than 5,000 people. It is built out of Dhaulpur sandstone, marbles & granites and is 120 feet in height.

                       Followers of Ambedkar & Buddhism gather here on Ashoka Vijaya Dashmi, marked to celebrate the amalgamation of many Dalits to Buddhism by Doctor Ambedkar, to offer their tributes. The place is of great religious importance to them.

2 . Ramtek Fort Temple :

                       Away from the city crowd, situated inside a fort on a hilltop, this temple is a source of rich mythological history. It is believed that Lord Rama took rest in this temple before leaving to conquer Lanka therefore making Lord Rama the main deity to be worshipped here.

3 . Adasa Ganpati Temple :

                          Adasa Ganpati Temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is located about 35 km from the main city of Nagpur. The shrine is situated on top of a tiny hillock and can be reached through a small trek of around 100 meters or a flight of 40-50 stars. Other than presenting a picturesque view of the city, the premises are also used for family day picnics.

4. Umred Pauni Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary :

                          Umred-Pauni-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary, about 50 km from Nagpur and 60  km from Bhandara, is spread over Pauni Tahsil of Bhandara district and Umred, Kuhi, and Bhivapur Taluka of Nagpur district. This sanctuary has a connection with Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve through the forest along the Wainganga river. The sanctuary is home to resident breeding tigers, herds of Gaur, wild dogs, and rare animals like flying squirrels, pangolins, and honey badgers.

5 . Navegaon National Park  :

                            One of the most famous tourist destinations near Nagpur, Navegaon National Park is located at a distance of about 140 kilometers from Nagpur. Apart from providing for a jeep safari and housing a huge variety of wildlife species, there are various other attractions to visit Navegaon. Right at the center is the Navegaon Dam, which is said to have been built around the eighteenth century. Catch a panoramic view of the entire park, atop the watchtower in the middle of the lake. You can also enjoy a boat ride in the lake. If you are a bird lover, do pay a visit to Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. The library and museum contain the entire history and whereabouts of this place.

6 . Raman Science Center :

                         The Raman Science Centre is an interactive science center located in Nagpur that is affiliated with Mumbai’s Nehru Science Centre and was developed with the objective of promoting a scientific attitude amongst the masses. The center was established on 7 March 1992, following which the planetarium was made functional on 5 January 1997. Various science exhibitions are carried out in the center which show the growth of science and technology and the application of this science in human welfare and industries. The center got its name from the famous winner of the Nobel Prize, the Indian physicist Mr. Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman. The center thereby supports a scientific bent of mind and attitude.

                       Even though the unique purpose of the science center plays a vital role in helping it to get attention and visitors throughout the year, the facilities offered by it are what keep that attention going and make it stay. Some services provided at the Raman Science Centre include a gallery showcasing Information & Technology, inventions, and innovations by people from all over, an exhibition called fun science giving a practical insight into the scientific principles, and a beautiful and large science park which is spread over 6 acres of land.

How To Reach :

1 . By Flight :

                          Regular flight services ply to and fro Nagpur. 8.8 km. away from the main city is the nearest airport, Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, which serves regular domestic flights to her customers.
2 . By Road :
                    Regular bus services ply to and fro Nagpur. Buses, in a range from affordable to slightly expensive rates, are available from places like Mumbai, Pune, Panjim, as the list goes on. You can also take a shared taxi or cab for the same route.
3 . By Train :
                 Regular rail services ply to and fro Nagpur. Nagpur Junction railway station is the principal station that connects Indore to the rest of India via railways.

4 . Local Transport :

                  Buses, Autos and Taxis, one can prefer either. Buses are the most convenient mode of transport. Auto's and Taxis run on meters like other metro cities making it easy for the tourists to travel without being conned.
